January saw major milestones achieved at The Mark Seattle. The last shotcrete shoot for the perimeter walls was completed on the 11th in addition to four concrete elevator core pours throughout the month. Steel erection began this week in the west garage coinciding with the start of stair installation in the garage on the 27th. On January 20th, the tower crane jumped
another 100’ in order to stay above the concrete elevator core. On March 4th and 5th, the heavy steel box columns that span from floors 1-5 will be erected. This will require both 5th Ave. and Columbia Street to be closed as detailed below.
For safety, the west sidewalk between Columbia Street and Marion Street will remain closed to pedestrians throughout the duration of the project. The west side traffic lane will be closed for construction Monday – Friday, between 6 p.m. and 3 p.m. and on Saturdays (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) as required.
The north sidewalk between 5th Avenue and 4th Avenue will remain closed throughout the duration of the project as this is a concrete pumping station and will serve as the location for a construction elevator and other primary building functions.
March 4th – 7th will require significant road closures to allow for the erection of large structural steel columns from Level 1 to Level 5. This will entail a full closure of 5th Ave between Columbia and Marion Streets and Columbia Street between 4th and 5th Ave. for 2 successive weekends.
