The rooftop is hot with activity at the beginning of March. Steel erection and detailing work is ongoing to install the intricate overhead grillage which covers nearly the entire roof. Also, the massive building maintenance crane was successfully hoisted to the rooftop and installed on the 6th and 7th of March. The BMU lies on concrete beams which were installed to such close tolerances that not a single shim was used during the installation; an impressive feat! The curtain wall glass is nearing the top of the building and preparations are underway to continue the curtainwall’s progress above Level 45. Also on the roof, the penthouse will receive aluminum sheathing. This will fully seal in those critical mechanical areas housed within the penthouse. Both the SE-1 and SE-2 service elevators are reaching completion. Each is on schedule to be turned over and on-line for use in mid-March. Subcontractors have been diligently working to load materials and equipment throughout the building in preparation for the removal of the dual car man hoist. This removal will happen once the service elevators are complete. Following this removal, the leaveout sections of curtain wall can be installed and street level improvement work along Columbia Street can begin.
For safety, the west sidewalk between Columbia Street and Marion Street will remain closed to pedestrians throughout the duration of the project. The west side traffic lane will be closed for construction Monday – Friday, between 6 p.m. and 3 p.m. and on Saturdays (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) as required.
The north sidewalk between 5th Avenue and the Rainier Club’s eastern property line will remain closed throughout the duration of the project as this is a concrete pumping station and will serve as the location for a construction elevator and other primary building functions.
4th Avenue has been reopened for the public. Deliveries of curtain wall glazing unit bunks and structural steel will also continue along 5th Ave.
