Major Activities

Structure

The 5th and Columbia project is continuing to achieve milestones in April 2017. One of the biggest accomplishments will be the substantial enclosure of the building with glazing. The curtain wall glass will reach Level 45 this month and continue up above the roof to complete the tower’s glass façade. Both service elevators are now online and active within the building, fulfilling another important milestone. Activation of these elevators allowed for the dual car man hoist to be removed the first weekend of April. The glass panels which were left out for lift access can now be installed with the lift removed from the job site. Within the tower, interior mechanical, electrical and plumbing work is continuing as well as finish work in the bathrooms. Down on street level, exterior finishes at the podium are making quick progress as glass and stone facades are installed. With the removal of the dual car lift, attention will also be brought to street level improvements such as sewer tieins, sidewalks and planters along both 5th Ave. and Columbia Street.

Public Impacts

5th Avenue

For safety, the west sidewalk between Columbia Street and Marion Street will remain closed to pedestrians throughout the duration of the project. The west side traffic lane will be closed for construction Monday – Friday, between 6 p.m. and 3 p.m. and on Saturdays (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) as required.

Columbia St

The north sidewalk between 5th Avenue and the Rainier Club’s eastern property line will remain closed throughout the duration of the project as this is a concrete pumping station and will serve as the location for a construction elevator and other primary building functions.

Mobilizations/Street Closures

4th Avenue has been reopened for the public. Deliveries of curtain wall glazing unit bunks and structural steel will also continue along 5th Ave. The weekend of April 15th, 5th Ave. will be shut down to one lane between Columbia and Marion Streets for side sewer work. This will be 24 hour work in order to return the normal lanes by commute hours Monday morning.
